About the Artist

David Skinner
Artist Biography

I am the third generation to be born and raised in Ingersoll. I spent my working years at Ingersoll Paper Box Co. My wife Patty and I have 3 children and eight grandchildren.  I first encountered art appreciation at IDCI through the art program run by Homer Lashley who made a lasting impression because I’ve always had an interest in art galleries and museums and usually abstract painting.

“Ingersoll is blessed to have the ICAC which attracts so many people of varied interests.

Communities such as Ingersoll offers a wonderful assortment of opportunities to become involved with. Over the years coaching different sports teams and being asked to work on different” committees has given me a wonderful chance to meet a real cross-section of people who reside in our little gem by the Thames.”

Artist’s Statement

I found the world of art as far as actually drawing and painting late in life, close to retirement about 10 years ago. It happened quite by accident by starting to sketch and using markers for colour. Then came acrylics and mixed media about 8 years ago. Since I paint abstractly, I like to experiment with different materials and ideas.  I’m self taught so it’s been an interesting process. I encourage anyone who has the slightest interest in exploring their creative side to jump in. Lots of people to share back and forth with in th  e immediate area and at the ICAC.

I live and love to paint. Great therapy but you have to stick with it. It just seems like yesterday when I began. It is such a humbling experience when someone decides they would like to hang one of my paintings in their home. Nothing like it.

Thank you for visiting the show and if you are new to the ICAC take the time to see and ask what else they have to offer. It may be time for you to change direction and scratch your creative side.

Take care,

David Skinner.
