My Creative Spirit

Paulette Robertson

Born in the Maritimes, I remember as a child that I loved pieces of folk art with their bright colours and imperfections. My work reflects this love of whimsy and primitive background. They are more a feeling and expression than perfection. They seem to have a soul of their own and I do not want to disturb it.

My adventure in clay began 46 years ago, with a piece of pottery that I received as a wedding gift. I enrolled in a pottery class with an old Latvian potter in Hyde Park, Toronto….and the rest is history.

After traveling for a year, we ended up in Ingersoll in 1986 and became involved with the Creative Arts Centre…..teaching children’s pottery and the “Young at Art” program for Oxford County schools.

Since then, I have been experimenting with clay, and somehow, hand building is what I enjoy. I believe that there is a spirit in each piece of clay that wants to come out….and identify itself!!!

About 12 years ago, I attended a rug hooking class….and got “hooked on wool” !!! This provided me with a new form of expressing my love of folk art, and working with wool and fiber.

I would like to share a few of my creations with you….as you can see, each piece has its own identity.
