ABOUT THE ARTIST: David Vancook is a graduate of Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax and has had numerous commissions and exhibitions.
Artist’s Statement: My work combines a love of the natural world with a constant desire to push myself with different media. I try to explore different perspectives by combining different fragments of imagery together to create what I hope is something of visual interest. My degree in interdisciplinary studies is reflected in the typical use of multiple media in each piece that I do. I enjoy experimenting with combining thematic, visual and even sculptural elements in each piece. The bulk of my work is done with watercolour, acrylic paint, ink, graphite, collage and resin. I typically work on illustration board or wooden panels and have been developing the idea of creating different perspectives by physically removing parts of the support and creating new images underneath. My subject matter is drawn from a love of nature and a fascination with the concept of perspective in all its myriad forms.
