Three-dimensional Collage Quilting (Maple Leaves)

You can create a spectacular 3-D collage quilt using the design elements of your choice but the maple leaves are so appropriate for this year – 2017.  You will play with colour and texture while creating your one-of-a-kind work of art.  During class, you will design and commence assembling the quilt.  Assembly is done by hand, partially fused, machine quilted and then embellished by hand.  A fun technique! Supply list upon registration.

Beginner  Quilting – 8 weeks

In this class, you will start with the basics, so that you can become a successful quilter.  You will learn what supplies you need to quilt with, and how to use your rotary cutter and rulers.  You will make 6 different blocks, employing different techniques, then, you will join these blocks together and add borders to complete your quilt top.  Instructions for applying binding to the finished quilt will also be included. Supply list upon registration.

Q6 Extravaganza Design Lab

Spend a day under the guiding hands of Susan Clark and Linda White, learning how to combine the wide variety of Q6 blocks or other orphan blocks that you have collected over the years, into a ‘one-of-a-kind’ quilt.

Merry-Go Round Roses – 1 day
The roses may be all gone from your gardens, so let’s take a day of ‘gardening’ from our stash of fabrics!  Explore making roses by using slivers of fabric, both large and small, as well as  learning about complimentary blocks and backgrounds on which to place the roses. Supply list upon registration.

Tips & Techniques Tutorials (TTT’s)

Wed. Oct. 11, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

EQ7 – Patch Draw, Applique and Wreaths: In this session we will explore the PatchDraw Block, Patch Block Motif and  EasyDraw + PatchDraw drawing techniques.  We will also look at making wreath blocks and using layers.  As an exercise we will design patchwork people, using a combination of piecing, applique and embroidery.  A basic knowledge of EQ7 and the use of EasyDraw is assumed, but attendance at previous sessions is not a requirement.

EQ7 – Exploring the Limits: This is an advanced course that will explore how to create unusual and unique quilts.  We create Bargello designs and pixel quilts.  Bring a challenging design that you may have seen and would like to create or a photo that might make an interesting quilt.  We will try to create the effect of a ‘black hole’ quilt shown in the picture.

Mile-a-Minute Revisited: Learn this fun technique for using up left-over strips and scraps of any size.  Make it square and orderly, wonky crazy- patch style or ‘circular’.

Squaring Up: Learn the importance of ‘squaring up’ throughout the process of piecing a quilt,   to achieve perfect results.  There will be tips for making the best use of your rulers.
