JUNE 2008
GREETINGS FROM THE CHAIR
It was a beautiful spring day, the spaces were full for our Junk in a Trunk sale, the Garden Art was all set up, the plants were identified and priced and the crowds came. We welcomed spring at the Centre with a most successful Plant, Garden Art and Junk in the Trunk Sale. Thank you to Karen MacKay and all her volunteer helpers for making this another successful fundraising event.Raffle tickets are now on sale for the Quilt, made by our quilters and to be raffled off at the Quilt Show in September. We are not sending out tickets for you to buy or sell this year. However, we encourage everyone to buy, and we would certainly appreciate an offer to sell some. You may arrange to get these through Heather. Thank you quilters for donating the proceeds to the Centre.
The Centre is slowly becoming “green.” Our cleaners are using green cleaning products, we have a Brita Filter on the kitchen tap and we are looking into grants that are designed to help us in this pursuit. Thank you to all members who are helping to make the Centre an environmentally friendly facility.
Help! We still need ideas for fundraisers. No idea is too small or big! Also we are still looking for executive members. Our AGM is scheduled for October 15th. Don’t wait to be asked. Please volunteer. We will welcome you with open arms.

Membership
The Board of Directors have decided to change the membership year to coincide with the fiscal year which is June 1st to May 31st. For current members (2007/2008), memberships will last until August 31st 2008.
Potters Report
Any Potters wanting to use the studio on their own time, please make sure that there is not a class scheduled. Phone Heather at the Centre. The Thursday evening session is discontinued for the summer months. We will start again in September.
As you may have noticed, our membership year now goes from June 1st to May 31st. We ask everyone to pay their bills owing for clay and firing. The financial books have to be closed before the new year starts.
We had a chance to purchase a used potters wheel. It is practically new and the price was right. Please try it out and let us know how you like it.
A little reminder to all potters using the CAC studio, please make sure you clean up before you leave. Do not leave things to drip dry in the sink. The school children arrive early in the morning; the room needs to be ready for them.
Our in-studio workshop “Working on Sculptures” was held on May 22nd.. Everyone had their own ideas of what they wanted to try. The Raku firing day is at Shirley Clifford's place is on June 12th. You need to have some bisqued-fired pieces. We will pay Shirley for the glazes and the gas being used. This is an all-day activity with a pot-luck lunch at noon. This is a great fun day and we hope you will all come out and join us, even if it is only to watch.
Thank you to the potters who took part in the “Garden Art” section of the plant sale. Also thanks for the plants donated and the help at day of the sale.
Happy Potting-Erika

What Our Members Are Up To
Congratulations to Sue Goossens for being accepted into the Look 2008 Annual Juried exhibition that took place at Gallery Lambton in Sarnia.
If you ever look at Canada’s Style at Home magazine check out the May edition. Shane Norrie has a very nice write up and photograph in the magazine.
Cathy Groulx is exhibiting her paintings June 9-21 at the Art Exchange in London. Opening reception Thurs. June 12th at 7:30 p.m.
The Oxford Quilters Guild
We have had a very busy season. We have just over 200 members in the Quilt Guild. We have enjoyed the trunk shows from many talented quilters and fabric artists. The latest artist was at our May meeting. Betty Conlon ‘The Artful Needle’ is well recognized for using the technique of merging ancient art of silk painting with free motion machine embroidery. This was a fabulous show and very inspiring to a lot of quilters. Our next guest quilter is Margie Davidson from Edmonton on November 14th. She is doing two workshops while she is here.
Our year end banquet was held at the Ingersoll Golf and Country Club on May 28th. It was earlier this year as to not overlap with Quilt Canada. There are about 25 members of the Oxford Guild going to Quilt Canada which is being held in Newfoundland this year. The Oxford Quilt Guild has donated 27 table toppers that have already been sent to Newfoundland.
Don’t forget the Pieces of Magic Quilt show being held on September 25, 26 and 27th, 2008. Bookmarks and Posters have been distributed to shops and Guilds throughout Ontario. To register your quilts, contact Jan McAninch. We would like to have one quilt from each member.
Over the summer months the cooperative sessions on Mondays all day and Thursday evening at the Creative Arts Centre are still on going. You can finish off a project or start a new one. There is lots of table space available. Over the summer the quilt room will be getting a face lift. It will be painted, floors cleaned and waxed and stained ceiling tiles replaced.
Have a great summer and HAPPY QUILTING– See you in September - Joan Ford.
Fibre Arts Bunch
The Fibre Arts Bunch (FAB) has just wrapped up their meetings with a road trip to shops around Paris (Ontario, that is) and Oxford County. We enjoyed each other's company on the first and third Wednesday each month and had fun creating and learning from one another. Some of the techniques we shared were; wrapped (African) dolls, bobbin work, experimenting with water-soluble material, and chenilling. We will begin meeting again on Wednesday, September 3rd at 10 AM. Come out and give FAB a try! Look for the fall FAB schedule in mid September.

Young at Art
April and May have been busy months at the centre with school children participating in Young at Art Programs. Our dedicated instructors, Paulette Robertson, Cam Fisher, Linda Dineen and Rita Taylor instruct watercolour and pottery classes.
All the Ingersoll Schools are attending and even Woodstock, Springford and Dorchester schools are signed up this season. (734 children) Thanks to the Ingersoll Kiwanis and the Ingersoll Community Foundation for assisting the Centre with funding for this important program.
Plant Sale and Junk in the Trunk
The ICAC Board would like to thank all of our members who donated plants and other articles to our recent Plant and Junk in the Trunk Sale. The plant sale was a sell out. A crowd was waiting for the doors to open. We had 10 Vendors take advantage of the warm and sunny weather. The heirloom tomatoes sold by Kim Pembleton were a huge drawing card. Our thanks to the community for supporting this Fund Raiser for the Creative Arts Centre and to all those who worked hard over several days to make this possible.
March 2008
GREETINGS FROM THE CHAIR
In spite of the old fashioned winter we are experiencing, neither sleet, snow or rain kept our dedicated
quilters, potters, painters and fibre artists from attending many classes and workshops.
The current exhibition “Shapeshifters” is one of the best ever. Thanks to Pat Gibson, Paulette Robertson and
Linda Dineen for putting this together, and, of course, to Susan Clark, Jeff Lounsbury and his pottery classes for
providing the wonderful works of art. If you have missed it the exhibition will be up until after Easter weekend.
(Note: The Centre will be closed Easter Weekend).
Needed: IDEAS FOR FUNDRAISERS
Fundraisers are important to the Centre. Without the money raised it would be necessary to raise
membership and class fees. A suggestion box is located on the “Information Table” with forms to put
suggestions on. We particularly need an event that can be held between January and April. A prize will be
awarded to any suggestion that is used!
Greening of the Centre
You can help the Centre to become a “Green Area” by:
1. Not using bottled water in the Centre. The Centre has installed a Brita filter on the tap.
2. Putting garbage/recycling in the appropriate containers
3. Wearing a sweater in cold weather or light clothes in the summer
4. Having the newsletter sent by email
5. Giving us suggestions of other ways to be greenA big thank you to the Quilters who are already actively involved!
Note: The Centre is moving toward using environmentally safe
cleaning products.Potters Report
Our winter classes have been completed with a lot of wonderful things being created and a lot of enjoyment was had
while working together. A warm welcome to our new members; we hope you will spend many happy hours with us and
we are always glad to see our old members returning.
New Classes are due to start in April; please check your CAC program.
The February workshop on making goblets with Shirley Clifford was
very much enjoyed by all. A few more workshops have been scheduled
for this spring.
March 27-Working with Slips
April 17-Trip to New Dundee and the Burlington Art Gallery
May 22-Sculptures
June 12-Raku at Shirley’s with a pot luck lunchThe CAC plant sale is on Sat May 10; we have been invited to sell some
“Garden Art”. Tables will be set up outside in front of the building.
Participants look after their own sales with 25% to go to the Centre.
As well, don’t forget to save one or two of your better pieces for our annual members exhibition in April. Our pottery
studio seems to be a very busy and happy place with a lot of helping hands about. Let’s keep it that way!

Joan Ford Fibre Arts BunchWhen the snow falls or freezing rain coats the world, the Fibre Artists can be heard to say, "It must be Wednesday!" Several
Fibre Arts Bunch (FAB) meetings have been cancelled this season. The housebound days however, have resulted in wonderful creations brought to 'Show and Share'.
The FAB is a diverse group. We take turns introducing new ideas/techniques to each other in an informal, demonstration sort of way. Demonstration topics include, wrapped dolls, water-soluble material, chenilling to the extreme, bobbin work and jewellery techniques. Sharing and learning from each other is how we grow. We continue to challenge creativity this year with a 'Floral' theme. If you are passionate about painting/sculpting with fabric and fibre, come and try out the FAB. We meet from 10 AM to 3:30 PM at the Arts Centre on the first and third Wednesday of the month.
