Judges Remarks

Pat Gibson
It`s always a pleasure to view the art in our Members` Show. Thank you to all the artists for the courage to share their artistic creations with gallery visitors. Your hard work, joy and passion for your medium of choice is evident in the beauty of the pieces.

Working with juror, Deb Beard was very informative especially considering her ceramics knowledge and experience. The choice was challenging as we appreciated the artistic quality of many pieces in the show.
Tranquility by Lynda Williams deserves our HONOURABLE MENTION. This painterly piece of fibre art combines different materials that express the moving elements of landscape, sky and water, and the attention to fine detail in the tree and foreground all work to create a wonderful expression of distance and movement.

Thank you for the opportunity to help choose the Craft Ontario Affiliate Award.

Deb Beard
I would personally like to congratulate all the artisans for their contributions to the exhibit. It was a joy and thought provoking walk through the gallery to take in all the members had to
offer. Each of the pieces demonstrated a great deal of: skill, time, thought and passion by artisan in their respective craft.
While each piece of work had its own merit, one piece in particular stood out with regard to technique, presentation and innovative use of the medium.
On behalf of Pat Gibson and myself, we congratulate Tracy Robinson with her ceramic work ‘Mother’. With her presentation of: form, palette, texture and her unique approach to clay, Tracy has shown how exciting craft truly is.
The combination and vibrant use of glazes on the surface and interior of the piece, creates a symbiosis and continuity of theme throughout. The flowing asymmetric form reinforces the movement of the glaze. ‘Mother’ takes on a completely different appearance when observed
from any perspective and draws the enthusiast to pause a bit longer. The raised surfaces, while appearing to be random, continued to serve as the footing for the piece.
Again, a wonderful showing by the artisans and thank you for the opportunity to participate as one of jurors.
